The vaccine is recommended for individuals aged 9 months and older who are travelling to areas where there is a risk of yellow fever transmission.
Yellow fever is a potentially life-threatening viral infection that can cause a range of symptoms from mild fever, headache, muscle pain, nausea and vomiting to more serious complications like jaundice, kidney and liver failure, and hemorrhagic fever. The yellow fever virus is primarily transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito. The risk of contracting yellow fever is highest in parts of Africa, Central and South America, where the disease is endemic. As there is no specific cure for yellow fever, prevention through vaccination is critical for individuals planning to travel to areas where yellow fever is endemic or has been recently reported. The vaccine is highly effective and is the primary means of protection against the virus.
About The Yellow Fever Vaccine
The yellow fever vaccine is not covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). Patients will be required to pay for the vaccine at the time of their appointment. The current cost of the vaccine at Travel Health Windsor is $250, but is subject to change.
At Travel Health Windsor, we recognize the significance of proper documentation for international travel and strive to provide our patients with thorough and precise records of their immunization. Patients will receive an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP). This documentation serves as proof of your immunization status and helps to facilitate smooth and hassle-free entry into countries where yellow fever vaccinations are mandatory.
